Incidence of food poisoning at record low last year
EIGHT food poisoning cases were reported in Shanghai last year, with 201 people feeling sick but no one died. The incidence of food poisoning was 0.87 for every 100,000 people, a record low level, Shanghai Food and Drug Administration officials said today.
About 79 percent of local eateries have been examined and graded with a smiley face. A smiling face means good hygiene while a crying face means bad hygiene.
About 22 of eateries were awarded a smiling face, 68 percent a plain face, and 9 percent a crying face, the officials said.
By the end of last year, Shanghai has registered 61,561 licensed restaurants.
Semi-cooked dishes, raw aquatic products, lunch boxes, milk or yogurt are listed as high-risky food items requiring close check, the officials said.
