Local doctors to use gene tests in prostate cancer treatment
GENETIC screening and therapy forecast for people who are more prone to prostate cancer will soon be available in Shanghai, said doctors of the local Changhai Hospital, which signed a cooperation agreement with the US-based Prostate Cancer Foundation.
Dr Sun Yinhao, president of the Changhai Hospital, said prostate cancer is spreading quickly in large Chinese cities like Beijing and Shanghai and has become an endemic among elderly men.
"According to the Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention, prostate cancer has become the No. 1 cancer in the urinary system," he said. "Previously, it was the third after bladder cancer and kidney cancer."
Through cooperation with the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Chinese doctors can improve their diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, Sun said.
