Local experts call for more screening of kids for kidney disease

LOCAL medical experts today called for double screening including urine screening for local children in schools and ultrasound checks for newborns as an increasing number of children are found with a chronic kidney disease.

Such double checks can identify 90 percent of children with the kidney disease and effectively improve the diagnosis and treatment of children’s kidney disease, said experts from the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University today.

Chronic kidney disease is a common pediatric disease and can develop into kidney failure in case of serious infection.

A study in Minhang District conducted by a hospital found 9.29 percent of newborns had a high risk of abnormality in their kidney and urinary tract.
