Masks and disinfectant in demand

PHARMACIES are reporting a huge rise in sales of disinfectant, masks and thermometers.

Shanghai Huashi Pharmacy Co Ltd, the largest local pharmaceutical retailer with over 290 outlets in the city, said it sold 737 bottles of disinfectant, 17,007 masks and 2,357 thermometers yesterday.

Zhou Jie, manager of an outlet of Leixi Drug Pharmacy on Shimen No. 1 Road, said sales of masks were incredibly high. "We usually only saw good sales of masks in winter," he said. "We are busy preparing masks and banlangen, a traditional Chinese medicine which can help clear away heat and toxic material."

Wang Renjie, a salesmen at a Ley's pharmacy's outlet on Wujiang Road said the supply of masks couldn't keep up with demand. "We sold over 100 masks on Sunday and all the stock was sold out yesterday."
