Minority girl regains vision after charity surgery

A 9-year-old girl of the Yugu ethnic minority was discharged from a local hospital today after a timely surgery cured her eye disease and restored her vision.

The suffering of Zhong Xinyue from Gansu Province in northwest China attracted wide attention after her story was told in microblog and spread online.

Shanghai Bright Eye Hospital learned of her plight four months ago and contacted local authorities to bring Zhong to Shanghai for treatment, free of charge.

Doctors said Zhong won't suffer blindness and the hospital will continue to offer treatment to improve her vision.
