Mortality rates match developed nations
THE Shanghai Health Bureau yesterday announced that the city's maternal and infant mortality rates last year were 7.1 per 100,000 and 5.04 per 1,000, respectively - the same as in the developed countries.
The health authorities have also boosted prenatal services while adding 100 more beds in the three major maternity hospitals in the city. Monitoring efforts to detect high-risk pregnant women were also strengthened.
