Plan to prevent disease at Expo
THE city recorded 727 vector-borne infectious disease cases (where infection is transmitted by insects, rats and other non-human hosts) including seven deaths between 2004 and 2008, local health authorities told a conference yesterday on prevention and control for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
Under discussion was a plan by the Office of Shanghai Patriotic Health Campaign Committee to control the spread of vector-borne infectious diseases during Expo. Some 20 vector controlling teams have been set up and the office is also setting up inspection spots to monitor the situation in and around the Expo site, hotels, hospitals, supermarkets, key tourist spots, and both city airports.
