Pre-school boost
THE city has added 450 day care centers to its pre-school network since the middle of last year, officials said yesterday.
These, which include upgraded illegal kindergartens and new buildings, are mainly to accommodate the children of migrant workers in the city during the ongoing baby boom. At the end of 2010, Shanghai had 1252 licensed kindergartens. The current baby boom began in 2004 and is expected to continue in the city until around 2016.
