Push for 3D glasses for children
PARENTS are calling on cinema houses to invest in good quality three-dimensional glasses for children — both for their enjoyment as well as to protect their eyes.
But experts are urging parents to be careful of children who complain of eye problems after watching 3D movies.
Dr Wang Hong from Shanghai Children’s Medical Center said there was no evidence to suggest that 3D movies can harm the eyes of children.
However, children with glaucoma should avoid watching 3D movies.
He said spending long hours watching TV and on computer was more damaging than watching a 3D movie.
Some parents said they were more concerned about hygiene and worried about infectious diseases. Moreover, all 3D glasses in cinemas are the same — too heavy and big for children.
Local cinema houses said smaller-sized 3D glasses are available in certain theaters. They said parents can buy small 3D glasses for children.
Qiang Jiamiao from Shanghai Yonghua Cinema City said all 3D glasses are disinfected after use.
