Reference range for medical tests under reform
LOCAL doctors are teaming up with the counterparts from other provinces and the Ministry of Health to set Chinese' own normal range for clinical testing items.
Currently, all normal ranges of test items were used in line with Western people, whose physical condition is different from Chinese.
"This project has been named a major one in the recent five years and will be very meaningful in clinical practice," said Dr Pan Baishen, director of Shanghai's Zhongshan Hospital's Department of Clinical Laboratory.
Clinical laboratory has gained more and more important position in modern medicine, whose diagnosis and treatment greatly depends on testing results.
"Each testing result means a life. So we must be accurate," said Pan, whose department is the first in the city receiving international accreditation and recognized by medical facilities in over 40 countries in the world.
