Ruijin Hospital Group officially formed

Ruijin Hospital formed the city's first hospital group today by absorbing two district hospitals and four community hospitals -- all in Luwan District – in a move to pool resources, offer convenience to residents and save their medical cost.
Patients who are registered with the hospital group can enjoy better service and lower costs because their clinical records and health tests are recognized within the group, which also runs a patient database and provides disease prevention and monitoring service.
"Residents who are signed with the hospital group can also go to other hospitals for treatment if they need," said Xu Jianguang, director of Shanghai Health Bureau, which oversees the medical reform.
"This format will be replicated in other districts in the future once the trial proves successful in Luwan District," Xu said.
