Shanghai drafts law against swill oil dealers
TO prevent swill oil from flowing into kitchens, companies and individuals who illegally collect and process swill oil or gutter oil will face hefty fines of up to 100,000 yuan (US$15,900), city officials warned.
Restaurants that sell swill oil to collectors will face fines of up to 50,000 yuan under a new draft law that is open for public discussion from today to next Wednesday, the officials said.
The draft law sets a high threshold for companies to specialize in swill oil collection and transportation and they must obtain business licenses through bidding.
Shanghai restaurants are also required to install waste oil storage facilities provided by licensed companies.
Some people commented on the draft law on the Shanghai government Weibo microblog, saying it is the strictest law against swill oil offences.
