Surgeons 'forget' to operate on patient
A LOCAL hospital "forgot" to operate on a patient after anesthetizing him for 50 minutes, but a surgeon told him that the operation was a success when he woke up, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
The patient, 65-year-old Cao Longbao, only discovered the next day that he hadn't had the operation to remove intestinal polyps. He became suspicious because he was in no pain, but the surgeon surnamed Xia reassured him that the operation had been very successful, the report said.
Shanghai East Hospital has admitted the mistake, saying the doctor had thought the patient needed just a biopsy. Officials have also promised Cao free surgery to remove the polyps today. Cao had paid 2,000 yuan for the operation.
