Surgically separated twin sisters leave hospital today
FOUR-MONTH-OLD twin sisters An An and Xin Xin, who received a surgery earlier this month to separate their conjoined chest, left the hospital this morning.
They are now in healthy condition but will need special care and training because their growth is somewhat slower than that of normal babies, said doctors at the Shanghai Children's Medical Center.
The doctors said the sisters need more exercises because their necks are weak and their spines curve backward.
The twins are from Zhejiang Province. Their 39-year-old mother was found carrying Siamese twins during a prenatal check 18 weeks into her pregnancy. Since she had two miscarriages before, she decided to keep the fetus because the doctors said the twins were conjoined only at the chest.
