Swine flu cases on the rise
MORE people have been contracting swine flu in the city recently, although no critical cases have been detected, Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention said yesterday.
Due to low temperatures, numbers of patients with fever were up 20 percent on usual figures in local hospitals. Some big hospitals even saw a 60 to 70 percent increase in patients with fever compared to the same period last year.
Many patients had symptoms like coughing, throat pain and headache. People with such symptoms accounted for 30 to 40 percent of all cold patients. This could be related to the recent cold and dry days and the poor air quality, doctors said.
Doctors advised residents to keep warm and wear masks when outside.
