Swine flu victim improves
THE city's first major swine flu victim has improved although he is still in a critical condition and in a coma, doctors said today.
The 35-year-old patient surnamed Liu has stopped taking flu remedy Tamiflu and medicine for low blood pressure, although he is still depending on a machine to breathe.
"His situation has improved, but his condition is still severe," said Dr Lu Hongzhou, an infectious disease expert monitoring the patient's treatment.
Officials from Shanghai No. 1 People's Hospital's Songjiang branch said Liu tested negative to the H1N1swine flu virus after treatment.
Liu, a migrant worker from Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, experienced severe symptoms and difficulty breathing last Thursday and was diagnosed with swine flu last Friday.
