THE Shanghai Health Bureau reported the city's 14th case of swine flu yesterday: a 17-year-old boy from Yunnan Province who was studying in the United States.

The youth arrived in the city aboard China Eastern Airlines flight MU586 from Los Angeles at 7:10pm on Wednesday.

He said he started to feel feverish and began experiencing throat pain and a runny nose after checking in at a local hotel. He called an ambulance on Thursday and was sent to a fever clinic at Huadong Hospital with a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius. He tested positive for swine flu yesterday.

The patient has been sent to Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center for quarantine and treatment. All of his 65 close contacts have been located.

The 27 people whose destination was Shanghai and 38 who went to other provinces have been put under precautionary quarantine or home observation.

Shanghai's seven flu patients who remain under hospital treatment were reported to be in stable condition yesterday.
