Terminally ill girl to get life-saving treatment

AN 11-year-old girl suffering from a fatal blood disease is expected to receive a transplant of her father's bone marrow and a unit of umbilical cord blood from the Shanghai Cord Blood Bank tomorrow.
If successful, Wang Jiahui is expected to move to an ordinary ward in one month and be discharged in three months, doctors from Huaian No.2 People's Hospital said.
The family from Huaian, Jiangsu Province, said Wang's recovery will be the best memorial to her grandfather, who gave up treatment on his own cancer in order to save money for her.
Wang was found aplastic anemia two years ago and soon after her grandfather was diagnosed with terminal esophagus cancer.
To give the girl a chance of survival, her grandfather refused all treatment and died in December last year. He failed to see Wang at the last minute since the girl was hospitalized.
Wang received donations after her story was reported by local media and was finally able to receive the transplant.
