Training program launched to promote flow cytometry use in clinical practice of pediatrics

CHILDREN’S Hospital of Fudan University and BD China, a domestic branch of the  US-based pharmaceutical giant, today set up the nation’s first training program to promote education and adoption of flow cytometry in clinical practice of pediatrics.

Flow cytometry is an advanced biophysical technology used in cell counting, cell sorting, biomarker detection and protein engineering for diagnosis of immunity function, leukemia, blood diseases and other cancers. It is widely used in basic research, clinical practice and clinical trials.

Dr Wang Xiaochuan, director of clinical immunity department of Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, said children with abnormal immunity can suffer frequent infection, allergy and fever and flow cytometry is an important diagnosis.

“The training program is to improve doctor’s ability on immunity evaluation and better treatment ability,” he said. “We will train more professionals to promote clinical adoption of flow cytometry to benefit more patients.”
