Watchdog gives E. coli advice
SHANGHAI Food and Drug Administration yesterday reminded local residents to follow high standards of hygiene in food preparation and ensure they heat meals thoroughly.
This follows the E. coli outbreak in Europe that has killed 16 people and left 470 seriously ill. City authorities advised people to wash hands frequently, especially before eating and after using the toilet, to keep raw and cooked food separate and to heat food completely. Officials said people eating raw vegetables should wash and disinfect them thoroughly and eat them soon afterwards. Shanghai Health Bureau said cases of E. coli in the city are stable.
