Your best view of the solar eclipse

YANGSHAN Port and the Sheshan Hill area will be the best sites in Shanghai to watch the solar eclipse on July 22, the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory said yesterday.

The eclipse will begin about 8:23am and last until about 11am, the observatory said. During that time a total eclipse will occur for six minutes, it said.

"Apartment balconies and spacious squares will also be good for viewing the eclipse," said Lin Qing, director of the obervatory's Sheshan Hill branch. Yuehu Park in Songjiang District, which is close to Sheshan, is building an observatory site for 2,000 people.

Experts will be on hand and there will also be a photography competition.

Many overseas astronomy fans are expected to visit Shanghai as China will be the best place to view the eclipse.
