100,000 yuan left on bus is claimed
A RELIEVED passenger has come forward to claim 100,000 yuan (US$15,752) she left on a city bus.
The middle-aged woman, surnamed Wang, thanked the driver of the No. 704 bus who found the cash, which she said was urgently needed by her family.
"I can finally go to sleep tonight," Wang said.
Wang met driver Zhang Huarong but he refused to accept any reward.
The money, packed in a paper box in a bag, was found on the bus at its Caoxi Road terminus, near Shanghai Indoor Stadium, around 9am on Thursday.
No one showed up to claim it during the day, said an official with service operator Shanghai Bashi Group, surnamed Zhang.
Wang, who got on the bus with the money at its departure point on Baochun Road, Minhang District, had been in a hurry and didn't even think she had the money on her, she told staff.
"She thought she hadn't taken the money out with her," Zhang told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
"But when she got home later in the day, she realized the huge mistake and became too anxious to sleep."
Wang came to the bus station on Baochun Road around 9pm and learned that the bus crew had kept the money for her, Zhang said.
Shanghai Bashi Group reminded passengers to keep tabs on their belongings.
"This type of thing happens all the time. We have picked almost everything on our buses - from credit cards to cell phones," said Zhang.
