2 pick up rewards for 'cloned cab' tips
TWO people were awarded 500 yuan (US$73.8) each for providing tips that led to "cloned cabs" being seized, the city's taxi watchdog said yesterday.
They were the first to be rewarded after the city opened a hotline for tips on July 29. They received the money from the taxi industry association.
Officials from the city's traffic law enforcement team, which collects evidence after receiving the tips, did not identify the two people to protect their privacy.
Wu Runyuan, a spokesman for the team, said they were pleased with the results so far and that "it's a great help to have more people rise up against illegal operations."
Wu said the team has received 76 calls. Officials are still investigating the other tips.
"Most of the people providing tips give us a lot of details and the clues have been reliable," the spokesman said.
