2km-long jogging track at Xujiahui Park to be ready by year-end

XUJIAHUI Park will complete the construction of a 2-kilometer-long track by the end of this year for the benefit of joggers.

The track will consist of an 800-meter inner loop and a 1,220-meter outer loop, extending from the intersection of Tianping and Hengshan roads all the way to Wanping and Zhaojiabang roads, according to Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau.

A bureau official said the track would help the growing population of night joggers, Jiefang Daily reported.

Xujiahui Park has become the favorite spot of joggers. However, the staircases on the outer rim of the park were not suitable for running, which led to the idea of putting up a track.

The track is made of porous asphalt and granite instead of the professional plastic running material. The park will also renovate some paths and upgrade its lighting and surveillance systems.

Citizens can still use the open areas of the park during construction.
