3 new shuttle lines open in Lujiazui

THREE new bus lines began operation yesterday in the city's busy Lujiazui financial zone to ferry commuters from Metro stations to their office towers.

It is the latest move to make public transportation more convenient in the area.

The red shuttle buses operating as the Lujiazui Financial City Bus run in the core of the financial area, officials said.

One bus line offers rush-hour shuttle service that also links a residential complex built for white-collar workers in Pudong with their offices. But its four buses run only during morning and afternoon rush hours.

The other two newly opened lines operate full time from 7am to 9pm, said the bus operator. Buses will run every two to three minutes during the rush.

The bus company said the fare is 1 yuan (16 US cents). Passengers with public transport cards can enjoy a free ride if they come from Metro stations within an hour and a half.

The lines and its stations are equipped with LED screens to show the latest stock market information. Free Wi-Fi and a Lujiazui map also are available at the stations.

White-collar workers in Lujiazui long have complained about the long walk between the Metro and many buildings in the area.

One shuttle bus line opened about one year ago to help solve the problem.

A pedestrian overpass also is being built in Lujiazui to connect some office buildings.
