3 new stations to open up on Metro Line 7
AN extension of Metro Line 7 will begin service on December 28, local Metro authorities said yesterday.
The stretch of line in the city's northern Baoshan District will add three more stations to services, with another three still to come, Metro officials said.
Line 7 currently has its northern terminal at Shanghai University Station. The extended line, about 10 kilometers long, goes further north and ends at Meilan Lake Station.
People living in the far north of the city will thus have a faster means of going downtown. It will take about 45 minutes from Meilan Lake to downtown Jing'an Temple Station where passengers can change to Metro Line 2.
The interval time between trains along the extension will be set at 15 minutes. That time is currently about five minutes on Line 7.
Three stops, Panguang Road, Liuhang and Qihua Road stations, will remain closed due to nearby construction projects, including residential complexes and roads, which have not yet been finished.
The extension marks the end of five years of large-scale subway construction projects and operational improvements.
Shao Weizhong, deputy director of Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, the city's subway operator, said yesterday that there will be no new subways built within the next two years.
