3D map to help future building projects
SHANGHAI now has a 3D map of its underground geological structure that is expected to help future construction projects and give residents more information about the city they live in.
Known as the Shanghai Urban Geological Information System Map, the project was a joint assignment by China Geological Survey of the Ministry of Land and Resources and the Shanghai Geological Survey from April 2004.
The completed 800-gigabyte map was given to the Shanghai government yesterday, SGS said.
In the near future, users can log on to Sigs.com.cn, the Web page of the city's geological survey, for free access to the map.
