40m people to travel in Spring fest
SHANGHAI’S transport system is expected to serve over 40 million people during the 40-day Spring Festival travel season which starts on January 24 next year, the Shanghai Transport Commission said yesterday.
About 16 million people are expected to use the railway and long-distance bus networks during the period with the peak day being February 4, four days ahead of the Chinese lunar New Year’s Day which falls on February 8. The return peak is likely around February 14, the commission said.
Shanghai’s two international airports will fly an expected 5.75 million in the 40-day period, a 7.4 increase compared to last year’s Spring Festival travel season. Over 1.1 million people will travel by road on highways.
Most of the travelers will be migrant workers, students and holiday travelers, the commission said.
