6 Metro lines to shorten train intervals

SIX of the city’s Metro lines will shorten their train intervals to better serve commuters starting Friday.

The six routes are Lines 1, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 11.

Line 1 will shorten the interval from 8 minutes to 4 minutes in the section between Shanghai Railway Station and Fujin Road Station for workday non-rush hours, for example.

Line 6 will cut its interval from 12 minutes to 9 minutes for the section between Gaoqing Road Station and the Oriental Sports Center Station. For the section between Jufeng Road Station and Gaoqing Road Station, the interval will be adjusted from 6 minutes to 4.5 minutes for workday non-rush hours.

Line 11 will shorten its interval from 5 to 4 minutes during morning rush hours between Jiading Xincheng Station and Sanlin Station.

Other lines will also see shortened train intervals in certain sections.

The timetable for first and last trains of the six lines will remain the same.

Shanghai’s Metro network has been hit by an increasing number of commuters this year, with the latest record being 9.018 million on March 21.
