A very chilly Christmas to one and all
WHILE you’ll be hard pressed to find a Shanghai home with chestnuts roasting on an open fire this Christmas, there’ll be no shortage of people complaining about Jack Frost nipping at their noses over the coming days.
Though today will be sunny, with a low of 5 degrees Celsius and a high of 12, tomorrow will be decidedly cooler, with a high of just 8, forecasters said.
People with breathing problems might find it hard to have a wonderful Christmastime as a light haze is likely this morning, the bureau said.
The air quality index will be between 175 and 195 in the morning, indicating moderate pollution, but there’ll be rockin’ around the Christmas tree as things improve later in the day, the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said.
The major pollutant will be the hazardous PM2.5 particles, millions of which are pumped into the air by people driving home for Christmas.
With tomorrow forecast to be cloudy and overcast, few people will be wishing it could be Christmas every day.
The outlook is much the same for Friday, though it will be slightly warmer, with a low of 6 degrees and a high of 10.
Anyone fancying a sleigh ride should do so before the weekend, as it’s set to be wet. The mercury on both days will be between 6 and 9 degrees, meaning it will be chilly, but not cold enough for an appearance by Frosty the Snowman.
