Air quality in real time
A real-time air quality reporting system is being introduced in Shanghai today on a website (www.semc.gov.cn), Weibo's microblog service and through a smartphone app.
The Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau said the system will alert the public to sudden changes in air quality which the current air quality index, or AQI, can't reflect as it is based on average readings over 24 hours. A free download of the app is available on the website.
