Airports report massive jump in passengers
SHANGHAI’S two airports are reporting a jump in the entry & exit passengers as the Spring Festival holiday gathers momentum.
Much of the jump in the passenger numbers can be attributed to the longer winter vacation for students with parents preferring to make full use of the holiday to travel overseas.
The number of entry & exit passengers at the Pudong Airport hit a high of more than 1 million between February 4 and February 14, according to Pudong Entry-Exit Frontier Inspection Station.
The daily average of entry & exit passengers was recorded as 94,500, which was up by 17 percent than last year. On Valentine’s Day, the numbers reached a daily record high of 106,000.
Hongqiao Airport also reported an increase in the daily average. Inspection officers said between February 11 and 16, the numbers topped 10,000 — up by 31 percent than last year.
The average number of daily exit passengers — 5,400 — was up 80 percent than last year.
As the numbers rise, airports have added additional security to maintain public order.
