Airports set for Labor Day travel

THE city’s two airports are expected to handle more than 600,000 passengers during the Labor Day travel period, the airport authority said yesterday.

Passengers can’t pack portable chargers in checked luggage but have to hand-carry them for security checks before boarding.

Yesterday, 1,909 flights were reportedly handled — 1,154 at Pudong International Airport and 755 at Hongqiao International Airport.

As a rising number of people travel with portable chargers, the airports warned passengers not to pack these devices in their checked luggage to minimize delays to their trips.

Under civil aviation rules, portable chargers whose rated energy is below 100 watt-hours could be carried. Passengers who want to carry chargers with rated energy between 100Wh and 160Wh must apply for approval from the airlines, and they are allowed to carry only two chargers. But portable chargers with rated energy above 160Wh are banned.
