An umbrella this weekend's essential item

Have your umbrella handy this weekend, it's going to be a rainy couple of days.

Although Typhoon Meranti has weaken to a tropical depression after making landfall at Shishi City in Fujiang Province yesterday morning, it will still bring rain or thunderstorms to Shanghai.

There will be a dry spell for a short period early on Monday, but the rain will return on Tuesday, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

Some districts were hit by rain yesterday under the influence of Meranti. Jiading and Qingpu districts had the worst of it but no flooding was reported.

Meranti will also cause a drop in temperatures. Today's high will be around 30 degrees Celsius and dip below that tomorrow.

Tuesday will see highs of around 28 degrees, but they'll be back to 30 degrees again on Wednesday.
