Another hitch at new terminal
SECTIONS of a fire curtain fell to the ground in a transit hall linking Metro Line 2 with the new Terminal 2 at Hongqiao International Airport yesterday morning.
No one was injured.
The device, a large canvas screen fixed to the ceiling which would be lowered in event of a fire to prevent it spreading, broke at 7:15am and parts of it fell to the ground.
The hall was cordoned off for a while with security staff guarding the scene.
Some escalators and an inquiry service desk were closed.
Officials with Shanghai Rainbow (Shenhong) Investment Co, the terminal planner and builder, said yesterday that they were investigating the incident.
And they said they would enhance checks around the new terminal, which opened to public on March 16.
The fire curtain was installed three months ago, airport staff told a local evening newspaper.
The new terminal has had several teething problems.
An observation deck above the departure floor was closed for decoration after being opened for just one day on March 16 when T2 opened to public.
There were also not enough signs guiding the public, which led to confusion.
