Apps for airports to benefit passengers
SHANGHAI Airport Authority is teaming up with tech giant Alibaba to work on a mobile phone application and website on airport and flight details.
The two signed an agreement of cooperation yesterday. The app will provide information to passengers on the status of flight delays at Hongqiao and Pudong airports.
The app and the website will ensure passengers are not stranded at the airport, Jing Yiming, president of the airport authority, said yesterday. “Though it can hardly prevent flight delays, it can be a useful tool for passengers,” Jing said after signing the agreement with Alibaba’s Ant Financial Group.
He said the authority was working closely with airlines and government bodies to develop the two sites. He however wouldn’t say when they would be ready but confirmed that it will be initially available on Alibaba’s online payment service Alipay.
Currently, airlines send short messages to passengers informing them of flights delays, but passengers have to call the airlines to find out how long they have to wait for the flight.
The smart phones can also be used to check in, shop or dine at the airports with Alipay, said Fan Zhiming, president of the domestic affairs group with Ant Financial.
The airport authority said it will also develop an application with Alibaba for visitors to the Shanghai Disney Resort that can be used for both flight and Disney entrance tickets. Fan said most of Hong Kong’s Disney tickets were sold through Alibaba’s platform.
