LOCAL authorities have told third-party taxi booking apps to discontinue their service of tips for drivers.

A statement issued by the Shanghai Transport Commission said the tipping function must be suspended from Friday.

On two popular apps Didi and Kuaidi, tips range between 5 yuan (80 US cents) and 20 yuan.

Violators will be fined from 30,000 yuan to 100,000 yuan.
