Big tourist discounts, fireworks shows in offing
MOST local tourist sites, restaurants and hotels will offer big discounts from today through October 6 to mark the Shanghai Tourism Festival. Almost all the main sightseeing and other tourist spots in the city will join the campaign, said the Shanghai Tourism Administration yesterday.
Tourism sites will offer half off the admission fee, while eateries will offer at most 48 percent off for holders of UnionPay tourist cards, officials said.
The administration said the idea was inspired by the China Tourism Day, which fell on May 19. The list of companies joining the campaign is listed on the official website of the festival http://www.tourfest.org/event3.php, but only in Chinese.
Joining the tourism campaign will be the 12th Shanghai International Music Fireworks Festival, to be held in Century Park on three dates - September 30, October 3 and October 6. Different from previous shows, the organizers will introduce basic fireworks knowledge to viewers during the performance this year to help them judge the quality of the shows.
Meanwhile in Pudong, consumers saddled with lots of cards will get a break as a new type of discount card will combine the functions of many cards. The Pudong New Area government will deliver 100,000 discount cards called "Dashequ" to residents and tourists during the annual shopping and tourism festival.
"We found that consumers' wallets are full of various cards including the membership cards, discount cards and coupons," said Wu Jing, an official with the Commercial Committee of the Pudong New Area.
"Now they only need to carry the card on them to get discounts at various venues including the restaurants, gyms, hair salons and shopping malls in Pudong," Wu said.
The card can be used at more than 1,000 retailers and stores in communities such as Lianyang, Jinqiao and Huamu. Discount activities will be updated from time to time even after the festival.
