Bike rental services to ease traffic

Baoshan District yesterday launched a bicycle rental service along Metro Line 3 stations to offer environmentally friendly transportation and ease traffic jams between Metro stations and residential communities.
Residents will have to pay a 300 yuan (US$49) deposit and apply for a debit card with the Bank of Agriculture, the district government said yesterday.
“The bicycles will be rented out for free for an hour, but bike users will be charged by 1 yuan per hour after that. They also have to pay a 10 yuan annual fee for the service,” an official with the district’s construction and transportation committee said.
The maximum payable amount per day is 5 yuan only.
The district has 46 bicycle rental stations in Songbao area. Most stations are near Songbin Road and Youyi Road stations on Metro Line 3.
The Baoshan District government started providing bicycle rental service since 2009.
