Zhejiang Road Bridge, Hongmei Road S. Tunnel to open this week

SOME of the newly renovated roads and bridges will open to traffic this week.

The 107-year-old Zhejiang Road Bridge over the Suzhou Creek, which has been restored to its original look after a nine-month long renovation, will open for traffic tonight at 8pm, the Shanghai Road Administration Bureau said.

Hongmei Road S. tunnel, the 13th tunnel under the Huangpu River linking Puxi and Pudong, is scheduled to open on December 30, the Shanghai Municipal Investment Co said.

The opening of the tunnel, which connects Minhang and Fengxian districts, will be especially welcomed by people living in the southern rural districts, who will now have easier access to the city center.

Work on the Chenta Bridge in Songjiang District, the 12th bridge over the Huangpu River, is in its final stages but no date has been set for its opening.
