Bus route opens to appease residents
A NEW bus route opened yesterday to link a residential complex in Minhang District to the Hongqiao Transport Hub after residents complained about the lack of public transport.
Complaints had mounted as residents in Ai'bo Residential Community found it difficult to get around the city due to insufficient transport even though the complex is close to the new hub.
District traffic authorities said other bus routes would add stops near the community this month.
Some residents, most of whom were relocated to make way for the hub, said they didn't receive any benefits from the move.
"We've been forgotten in a remote place," said one complaint on an online forum.
The community has about 1,800 households. It is about a 15-minute drive from Metro Line 2's station at the hub and about a 40-minute walk.
Many residents, who moved there in April 2009, now have to take illegal taxis or sedans waiting outside their community to the Metro.
Traffic officials said the bus routes in the area would be adjusted after construction work was finished.
A transport administration official surnamed Fan said part of the problem was that a plan for the area made a priority of setting up bus routes connecting the hub with downtown areas. Local routes to the hub were a secondary priority, Fan said.
Meanwhile, a new bus route also opened yesterday in Pudong New Area. It connects Chuansha area to Line 2.
