Bus routes to link up with subways better

Bus operating hours will be extended on 120 routes starting next week to better connect with subways, local traffic authorities said yesterday.

The adjustment came after residents complained bus routes near subway stations stopped running too early, making it difficult to get home at night.

The bus routes have stops within 100 meters of nearly 60 Metro stations and Jinshan Railway. The last bus on these routes should depart at least 15 minutes after the last subway train, officials said.

Many of the bus routes pass Xujiahui, Shanghai Railway Station, Zhongshan Park, Hongqiao Railway Station and Century Avenue. These areas are either busy, have a large passenger load or link to big residential communities in the suburbs.

The last bus will depart 70 minutes later than before on average, according to traffic authorities. Buses near Shendu Road Station and Jiangyue Road Station along Metro Line 8 will depart 2 hours and 20 minutes later than before.

Officials said schedules will be modified at all bus stops before the end of the year.

Another 40 bus routes will be adjusted early next year.
