Cab crash driver held by police
A MAN has been detained for allegedly driving an illegal cab, crashing through the security line of the Expo Village and injuring a police officer on duty, police said yesterday.
The incident happened about 9pm on August 10 when the suspect, surnamed Xia, was taking a foreigner to the Expo Village, police said.
The car was stopped by security staff who found there was no rear car plate.
Police asked the driver to step out of the car but Xia is said to have suddenly asked the passenger to leave and then crashed through the security check station.
Zheng Shixun, an officer who was on duty, said the car hit a policeman.
As other officers moved aside, the car drove directly into the village, police said.
The cab crashed into a police vehicle and again broke through the security line to escape.
Xia was later picked up in the Pudong New Area's Sanlin Town, police said.
