Cameras to tackle illegal lane changing
TRAFFIC police yesterday began using the surveillance cameras on elevated highways to collect evidence against drivers illegally changing lanes.
This will crack down on illegal lane changing at exits of elevated highways, without interrupting traffic flow, said officers. Surveillance camera evidence is passed to officers who stop the vehicle as it leaves the highway. Drivers receive a 200 yuan (US$32.68) fine and have three points deducted from their license. Traffic police said the cameras are mainly used at exits along Yan’an Elevated Road and North-South Elevated Road. More than 40 drivers received punishment for changing lanes at Yan'an Elevated Road yesterday morning.
