Carnival parade on Huaihai Road
THE float parade, a fixed program of the annual Shanghai Tourism Festival will hit Huaihai Road again on the evening of September 12. The 2.2 kilometer route will turn into a scene of carnival as floats and performing squads entertaining crowds on both sides of the street.
This year's festival has attracted bands and performing troupes from 28 countries and regions. It is the first time for Russia and Columbia to participate in the event which began 20 years ago, said the Shanghai Tourism Administration this week.
The street pageant will also celebrate the 110th anniversary of Huaihai Road, formerly known as Avenue Joffre during the French concession era before 1949.
Officials said the style of Huaihai Road is a combination of the East and the West, the classical and the modern.
Local authorities will set up nine VIP viewing stands along the road and impose temporary traffic control.
