Cessation of shuttle bus highly unpopular
THE cancelation of the free shuttle bus for air travellers transferring between terminals at the city's Hongqiao International Airport has led to many complaints from unhappy passengers.
The city's transport authority said late yesterday that Shanghai Airport Authority was working on a better passenger transit plan. They have asked the airport to keep the free shuttle service in place until the new plan is decided on.
The bus service between the two terminals was canceled on Wednesday as airport operators believed transit could be done on Metro Line 10, as the Metro stations connecting the two terminals opened to passengers on Tuesday.
However, the sudden loss of the shuttle bus caused confusion as passengers complained that they were not familiar with the new method of transit.
Many passengers said they would rather take the shuttle bus than the Metro because the bus service was free of charge, while they had to pay for a ticket when taking Metro Line 10.
The free shuttle bus service started on March 16 to make it easier for air travelers to get to the terminals if they arrived at the wrong one. They also played an important role in transferring airport workers.
Shuttle buses handled 896,350 passengers from March 16 to October 31, said the operator.
The operator said in March that the bus service was temporary and would end once Line 10 reached the airport.
The opening of Line 10's new stops at Hongqiao Airport is expected to relieve pressure on Line 2, previously the only line connecting to the airport.
