Charity will now accept online donations
The Shanghai Charity Foundation will accept online donations for the first time as its annual fund-raising drive is about to begin, organizers said yesterday.
The month-long event, dubbed “True Love under the Blue Sky,” is expected to attract more than 10,000 online donors. More than 30 websites including eastday.com and ifeng.com will help collect donations. All donations will be transferred to the foundation and then distributed to needy families in the city.
“It is the first time online donations will be accepted, which is more transparent and efficient,” said Fang Guoping, executive vice chairman and secretary-general of the foundation. “People can track the names of donors, donation amount and donation projects.”
Some expatriates and foreign-funded companies will also participate, according to the foundation. It said the number of expat volunteers and foreign-funded company participants have increased in recent years.
In a program involving expats to be launched in early January, the children of migrant workers will receive both financial support and classes.
The fund-raising drive goes from December 12 to January 12. Last year’s donations campaign raised 233.4 million yuan (US$38.3 million).
