Chilly days to stay, but osmanthus keep on blooming
THE Shanghai Meteorological Bureau yesterday lifted the “blue” cold weather warning it issued on Sunday, but that doesn’t mean an end to the winter chill.
From today through Saturday, the mercury is unlikely to rise above 9 degrees Celsius, while the lows will be between 1 and 2 degrees, it said.
Sunday will be slightly warmer with a high of 11 degrees and a low of 4.
Chongming County was the coldest place in the city yesterday, at 0.5 degrees with some frost, while the low in downtown Xujiahui was 1.9 degrees, the local weather station said.
While there might be some cloud and even sleet today, most days this week will be clear and sunny.
Meanwhile, horticulturists yesterday recorded the 100th straight day of osmanthus blooms.
“It is very rare to see osmanthus flowers in December, and to see them for 100 days is something that happens only once every century, local gardener Wu Zhixing said.
But they won’t last much longer, he said. “With the arrival of the cold front, their days are numbered,” Wu said
