Chilly spell forecast for the city

WRAP up well, because rain and chilly winds are expected this week, say weather forecasters.

The week's lowest temperature will be around 14 degrees Celsius early on Wednesday morning - about 3 degrees lower than expected today, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Forecasters say this is due to a cold front over Shanghai.

After that, temperatures should rise slightly, with the low on Friday expected to be around 17 degrees, said the bureau.

High temperatures will remain at around 20 degrees throughout the week, forecasters said.

Intermittent rain is forecast for today, and after a dry, overcast spell, the rain clouds should return on Friday.

Forecasters said although the temperatures will not be very low, a lack of sunshine will make it feel decidedly chilly.

Gales are also expected to hit the city during this week, making it feel even colder for periods.

Today is Shuangjiang - Frost's Descent - the 18th solar term of the year.

Traditionally, it is believed that from this day frost can be expected in the mornings.

The date also heralds the arrival of the best season for enjoying the colors of autumn leaves.

But Frost's Descent also indicates that we will soon be into late autumn and the mercury will start to plummet, forecasters said.
