Chilly today but warmer tomorrow
WARMER weather is expected tomorrow, but the weekend chill will persist today, with the temperature downtown dropping to 0 to minus 1 degree Celsius and later rising to a high of 5 degrees, according to Shanghai Meteorological Bureau. Suburban areas will see the mercury fall to between minus 2 and minus 4 degrees.
The city enjoyed its earliest meteorological spring on record, starting on February 9 this year, the bureau said, but an unromantic combination of cool temperatures and sleet put a damper on Valentine’s Day celebrations.
The mercury began to drop from Saturday afternoon as a strong cold front moved down from the north, bringing temperatures of between 0 and 2 degrees Celsius yesterday morning, rising to a high of 6 degrees during the day.
The bureau said that while spring has begun, residents should be prepared for frequent changes in the weather, with both an active cold front from the north and a warm front moving up from the south expected to affect temperatures.
